(Wright County, MN) Over the past three weeks, the Critical Conversations Steering team has held 6 conversations on 3 different topics in 3 different towns in Wright County and is planning 2 additional conversations in 2 new towns. Topics included women in governing and leadership, civil discourse and race and ethnicity. The conversations have been successful in bringing people together to talk about the issues we care about today.
“I feel like these conversations are so important. How do we come together in a community unless we can talk with each other about the issues that affect us all!” stated Lori C of Waverly.
These Critical Conversations are bringing people together to talk about how we can make our community, here in Wright County, stronger. In Annandale, on October 9th, 17 individuals met to discuss how individuals are overwhelmed by the negative conversations amongst their family and friends, the current problems facing our Democracy and the issues they felt were out of their control. On October 13th, 23 people joined us in Delano to discuss these same issues, and on October 14th, a smaller group of 8 met to discuss race and ethnicity in Buffalo.
These conversations are affirming that individuals are looking for ways to come together to reinvigorate our Democracy so that it works for the people. “Sometimes we disagree on exactly how that can happen or what it looks like, but these conversations give us a chance to explore the issues,” stated Renee Cardarelle, the Critical Conversation lead organizer.
Across Wright County, people are asking for more of these conversations. They want to connect with their neighbors, to feel safe in voicing their ideals. These conversations help us do this.
New Critical Conversations are already underway in additional communities and the group plans to continue them into 2019.
